World War II Army Deaths
Van Buren County Iowa

The first consolodated linsting of Army dead and missing in World War II was released last week by the war department and includes 30,000 men and women who gave their lives in the Nation's service. The list was issued in fifty booklets, one for each state, one for the District of Columbia and one for the territories.

An overall death and missing rate of 2.98 per cent from all causes was indicated by the list. The names of those from Iowa were published in the Des MoinesDaily Register of Thursday, June 27 (1946), by counties.The letters following each name identify the type of casualty in this manner.

KIA --- Killed in action.
DOW --- Died of wounds.
DOI --- Died of injuries.
DNB --- Died non-battle.
FOD --- Finding of death after being missing more than one year.
